2018 05 MAS Championship Trial

Report

There were a total of twenty-one starters in the National 'B' event and three in the Clubman section. A total of five hills were set out, plus an additional timed test. Heavy rain during the morning led to very slippery conditions and the generation of a great deal of mud!
The rain eased off by the middle of the day and it became quite pleasant; things were going very well and it was decided to run an additional round of tests. However, very soon after the extra round got under way, the heavens opened with a vengeance ...... c'est la vie, as they say in posh circles.
On the slopes, Mark Hoppe took an early lead in his Dutton Melos, closely followed by the Corsas of Henry Kitching and Trevor Moffatt, with the Fiat 600 of Barrie Parker in fourth. These four continued to lead the way with Mark slowly extending his lead and by the end of round 4, Barrie had overtaken Trevor for third position and that's how things remained to the finish.

Congratulations to all the award winners and well done everyone else for surviving the day! Very many thanks to organisers Huw Gwyn Jones and Tecwyn Jones, with valuable advice and benefit of his experience from Lee Matthews. Huge thanks to the marshals (spot them in the photos!) for excellent work in trying conditions; and to Rhian Jones and the Young Farmers Club for providing the refreshments.
