Report

This year the Three Castles Classic Trial reverted to it's traditional three days of competition, having taken a bit of a break last year with a reduced one-day format. The event was run in brilliant weather throughout, which made it all the more enjoyable for the organisers, competitors and marshals as the Trial made its way through some of the most scenic parts of north Wales.
C&A Motor Club ran three test sites during the first day; two early morning tests at Penrhyn Park and Parc Faenol and a late afternoon test near Llandegai. Individual members were also out on other days at various locations.
Over sixty cars were entered, including two by locals Lee and Yvonne Matthews in a 1963 Ford Consul Capri GT (recently renovated by Lee and his team) and Ken and Sion Matthews in a 1960 Sunbeam Alpine. Unfortunately, the Sunbeam suffered engine problems and didn't make the start. Lee and Yvonne also experienced bad luck with the clutch master cylinder on the Capri failing before the first test. They managed to visit Penrhyn Park before effecting repairs and re-joining the field later in the schedule. This required cutting out part of the route and the penalties accrued meant that they would not be in the running for any of the main awards, but credit to them for qualifying as finishers!

Clerk of the Course Baz Green and Chief Marshal Ifor Davies have sent messages to thank all who turned out to assist. There were nineteen tests throughout the three days and only three queries received in total, which is testament to the standard of preparation and the running of each venue.
