Many thanks to Francine Dean for this account of the Midsummer Scatter Rally. Those who took part are looking forward to the next one and hope that more members will join them.
Crews met up at the start venue of the Gwalchmai Hotel, Gwalchmai, from 6pm onwards with some late stragglers joining them. There were seven entries divided into two classes, experienced and novice, which included one crew that turned up with no map.
Map reference plots were given out on signing-on, so the earlier arrivals has more time to plot. A drivers’ briefing was held in the car park at 7pm and crews then set off on the hunt; it was a lovely summer’s evening to be out and about.
Everyone did very well, all collecting the bonus items, including the chocolate that was presented to the winning crew. Jamie Jones and Will Owen were on a mission to win and they did just that with an extremely high score within the 2½ hour time limit. Endaf Jones and Stuart Austin, also with a high score, were close behind and won the Novice Class. Caroline and Gruff Parry came in at third overall and won the Experienced Class.
A huge thank you to the Gwalchmai Hotel for making us so welcome.
Everyone enjoyed the evening and wanted more, so we are giving them what they want and the next date is Friday, 30th August.
1st overall – Jamie Jones / Will Hughes (Exp.); 42 points.
1st Novice – Endaf Jones / Stuart Austin (Nov.); 37 pts.
1st Experienced – Caroline Parry / Gruff Parry (Exp.); 30½ pts.
4th – Haydon Owen / Stef Beckett (Nov.); 29½ pts
5th – Rhian Jones / Catrin Jones (Exp.); 24 pts.
6th – Martin Pike / Ian Merridue (Nov.); 22 pts.
7th – Nigel Griffith / Sion Griffith (Nov.); 21 pts.
