Report
Thanks to Sion Jones for this report,
The first navigation run of the year organised by Sion Matthews and the team was a great success and an excellent tribute to regular competitor and last years joint winner of Duncan's Roamer, Lee Threadgold who sadly passed away earlier this year. A fantastic turnout to start the season which made the most of the easier route to ease back into the flow of plotting and navigating.
Those that have attended these fantastic events know that winning is the main goal, however the associated socialising, banter, friendly competition and friendships that comes from a passionate group of likeminded individuals is not to be overlooked. This is something that Lee really appreciated and would put a significant effort into being able to attend to enjoy the welcome break from the day-to-day for a few hours with great people (and enjoy the ability to shout at my incompetence with reading a map). Who knew that a road car (Lee competed with the ever-sensible diesel RCZ), a navigator (decent eyesight optional) and a few bits of stationery alongside a map could result in fantastic memories.
The next navigation run in the series will be on the 6th of November, starting at David Hughes Sports Centre, Menai Bridge, signing on from 19:00, finishing for around 22:00, map 114 or 115 can be used, come give it a go. Thank you to the Matthews team whose work makes these events possible and to the competitors along the way, I know that Lee enjoyed every moment spent on these events.

To start this season's series of Navigation Runs I wanted to run the top right of the island as we haven’t been there in a while. Starting and finishing at the California Hotel made sense to keep the milage workable. The route headed north towards Amlwch, looped back towards Nebo, then south taking in a few NAM’s (Not As Map) along the way, and ending with a tight section around Marianglas. Results were spread out nicely with a few sneaky symbols put it.
Thank you to all who turned up to this special event as we remember Lee; he will be sadly missed.
