Report
The second event celebrating the club's 90th anniversary was a Sunday afternoon Scatter.
The event had five crews heading out to places all over map 114 (Ynys Môn) Crews started plotting their first hand-out from 2pm and were tasked to finish by 6pm. It was a very busy 4 hours!!
The task in hand was to collect as many points as possible - with points further away, down dead-end roads or on longer loops worth up to 3 points each and ones that could be picked up 'whilst passing' being worth 1 point each. To make it harder to decide a route - there were two manned points that were pretty much opposite sides of the island. These were open for a half hour window each - which made it hard to get to both and collect points between them! Only two crews (Peredur/Ifan and Elis/Lee) managed to make both manned points and bagging 5 points each in the process!
All the crews interestingly took different routes around the island - some focusing on the '3-pointers' and others just heading out to collect as many points as possible by getting as many of the clues as possible! There was an elusive container that was very well hidden behind a hedge that two crews (Will/Dion and Elis/Lee) visited the correct place but couldn't find the clue, although Will/Dion did take a guess that the container was supplied by 'Môn Caravans' and got it correct - they did the same with a couple other clues that helped them build a lead! Stephen/Simon to everyone's amusement did manage to find the container, and it transpired that if you approached from the opposite direction, it was fairly obvious!
The crew of Jill/Paul with their sons Charlie and Dougie had taken a slightly different route again and managed to get some of the larger 3-point clues with a mixture of the smaller ones in the mix.
Some images below and more in the Gallery (click the link).
The results were as follows:
1st (65 Points) - Will Hughes & Dion Bee - VW Amarok
2nd (45 Points) - Peredur Davies & Ifan Devine - Toyota Yaris
3rd (39 Points) - Stephen McEnhill & Simon Drakley - BMW Mini
4th (35 Points) - Jill Clarke & Paul Clarke and Charlie & Dougie - Range Rover
5th (32 Points) - Elis Matthews & Lee Matthews - Nissan Micra
As with all our events - a small number of volunteers put them on! This event was put on thanks to Deio Hughes with the help of Aled Pennant and Dafydd Edwards. The club also wishes to thank the California inn, Brynteg for the use of their facilities as a finish venue.
